What is Ultherapy?

A non-invasive skin-lifting procedure with micro-focused ultrasound and visualization for a natural looking facial lifting and tightening with real results.

Group-10970-1.png

The only FDA-cleared non-invasive solution to lift the skin on the brow, neck, and under the chin as well as reduce décolletage lines and wrinkles. CE-marked, Ultherapy unloads focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. The treatment starts a natural process, neocollagenesis, to produce fresh, new collagen to help the effects of time and gravity on the skin. It relies on the body's own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results.

Unique “See and Treat” modality

In all the phases of Ultherapy treatment, visualization provides practitioners with previously unattainable insight into dermal and subdermal tissues. At the optimal temperature, Ultherapy achieves a level of accuracy, consistency, and customizability befitting the Gold Standard in non-invasive skin laxity treatment when combined with energy targeting at depths that were previously only available through surgery.

1. Real-time visualization

Ultherapy is an evolution in the science of aesthetics. What makes the treatment different from the rest is the practitioner’s ability to see in real-time the areas that need to be treated and visualize exactly how treatments will be delivered. Seeing matters because every individual has different needs and everyone's skin is unique in shape and structure. When planning, clinicians use visualization to assess the anatomy of the skin and choose the best transducer(s) in order to avoid structures like bone and vessels and to ensure optimal device coupling and pressure. In addition, the application of energy using ultrasound visualization gives Ultherapy treatment its exceptional precision and adaptability.

2. Treatment at precise depth

Similar to a modern facelift, Ultherapy treats tissue at the same depth. The structural weakening of the SMAS/platysma at a depth of about 4.5 mm is largely responsible for tissue laxity. The dermis (depth 3 mm) is the only part of the body that other non-invasive treatments like RF and lasers can treat. Targeting both the dermis and the foundational tissues where laxity begins, Ultherapy delivers localized heating at precise depths of 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 mm without affecting intervening tissues or the skin's surface. More than 100% deeper than lasers and 50% deeper than RF, Ultherapy micro-focused ultrasound with visualization precisely targets tissues at predetermined, subdermal depths up to 4.5 mm without harming intervening tissues or the skin's surface. To aid in healing, the energy is precisely targeted, with space between each thermal coagulation point.

3. Optimal and consistent temperatures

The ideal temperature range for collagen contraction and denaturation is 60–70°C, which is only achieved by Ultherapy. Micro-focused ultrasound energy is applied to target tissue layers without heating the skin's surface, causing cellular friction and heating to about 65°C, which kickstarts aggressive neocollagenesis. • Being the only non-invasive lift, Ultherapy allows for a high level of precision and customization. • The body's natural healing response, neocollagenesis, is sparked by Ultherapy’s micro-focused ultrasound, which initiates the production of new collagen and elastin. • Similar to surgery, Ultherapy can target precisely at depths up to 4.5 mm. This treatment method tackles tissues much deeper than other non-invasive techniques.

Optimized neocollagenesis.

Ultherapy is the only nonsurgical skin lifting technique that addresses the same deep tissue planes as a contemporary facelift. In order to create thermal coagulation points (TCPs), micro-focused ultrasound precisely targets dermal and subcutaneous tissues. TCPs heat tissues to the right temperature for collagen contraction and denaturation.

Neocollagenesis starts right away and progresses through three stages each of which can produce noticeable effects for up to one year.

Phase-1-RSF.png

1. Phase 1. Inflammation. Activated upon injury.

The activation of microfocused Application of microfocused ultrasound energy creates TCPs, which denature collagen and initiate an inflammatory response. Macrophages engulf and digest injured tissue and release cytokines, which attract fibroblasts.

Phase-2-RSF.png

2. Phase 2. Proliferation starts within hours and lasts for several weeks.

Fibroblasts synthesize new collagen, mainly Type III, and other mediators important to rebuilding of the collagen matrix. Histological analysis of facial skin treated with Ultherapy shows a significant increase in collagen and elastin.

Phase-3-RSF.png

3. Phase 3. Maturation and remodeling. Typically starts at 3 weeks and may last for 1 year.

Type III collagen is replaced by Type I, forming tight cross-links with itself and other proteins. This gradual collagen remodeling process is essential to the skin tightening and lifting provided by Ultherapy. Data from an innovative Ultherapy study, in which patients only received treatment on one side of the face, showed that the rate of collagen production was, on average, 1.4 times higher on the treated side compared to the untreated side. Collagen Types I and III, which are most closely linked to the signs of aging, saw an increase in production rate of 42% on the side that received Ultherapy.

Who Should Undergo the Ultherapy Treatment?

Why Choose Ultherapy?

Ultherapy works best for those with mild to moderate skin laxity. A good candidate is typically in their 30s, 40s, or early 50s and has skin that is beginning to look less firm, resulting in a lowered brow line, sagging neck skin, or early signs of jowls along the jawline. Any skin tone or type is suitable for the treatment.

Skin elasticity and the lack of deep sun damage are the primary factors for improvement with Ultherapy. Many patients reject the idea of getting a facelift or aren't yet surgical candidates. This is where Ultherapy works best. The option of noninvasive skin tightening can be provided to patients who are not medical candidates for surgery because of underlying health issues.

Ultherapy is FDA cleared and has been awarded the CE mark to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the décolletage and lift the skin on the forehead, neck, and under the chin. Ultherapy acts as microscopic focused ultrasonic evidence that allows for real-time visualization, targeting of issues with pinpoint accuracy, and patient outcomes that are optimized.

Ultherapy is a proven practice that offers one of the highest returns on investments (ROIs) of any non-invasive facial aesthetic treatment. Ultherapy is the only authentic treatment for focused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V).
